With the demand clearly in favour of SUVs manufacturers are trying to fill just about every gap with one such vehicle. Even the entry level hatchback segment. Take this, the Ford Motor Company #Figo #Freestyle for example.
Based on the popular compact Figo, the Freestyle offers a slightly more adventurous appeal. This has been achieved through design enhancements such as a 16 mm higher ride height over the Norma #Figo. There are bigger wheels, black wheel-arch mouldings, #Freestyle specific kit plates plus roof rails for added practicality.
The interior is also quite nice. The fit and finish is decent and the facia is visually appealing, as is the Ford SYNC infotainment system. It offers #Apple #CarPlay and #Android Auto with two USB port connections. The SYNC touchscreen offers crisp graphics and its menu system is very intuitive. This top-spec model also features automatic headlights and wipers, climate control, as well as a keyless start. As for practicality, this Figo offers 256-litres of load bay capacity.
In terms of safety, the Figo Freestyle Titanium, as seen here comes with 6 airbags and ABS, but no electronic stability control, unfortunately.
Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated motor that produces 91kW and 150Nm. It drives the front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox. The combination results in a rather nippy litre car that’s eager to get going and emits a pleasingly rorty 3-cylinder thrum.
Out on the road, the larger tyres and 190mm of ground clearance means that you can venture off the beaten track. The ride is compliant, the suspension soft but I found the steering setup to be a bit vague, but there’s sufficient sharpness and directness to instil driver confidence should the mood arise.
